Can I convert my my full-time PhD into part-time PhD?

- A student who requests this type of conversion must have satisfied the residency requirements, finished the course work, passed the comprehensive test, and presented in the "State of Art" Seminar on topic No. 10 with a grade of Satisfactory. obtain the DPGC and the supervisor(s) to approve the request.
- Candidates may enroll in a part-time PhD program through UGC "if all requirements are met." An official "No Objection Certificate (NOC)" from the relevant authority is required to be sent to the institute by the candidate's employer.

- The student must have 5. secured a regular/full-time job. In order to continue in his or her PhD program, the student must pay the semester fees, present the RAC with updates on their work every semester, and complete part-time semester registration. Candidates may enroll in a part-time PhD program through UGC "if all requirements are met." The institute needs a "No Objection Certificate (NOC)" from the proper authority, which must be given to the institute by the candidate's employment.
The conversion from full time to part time was accepted by the Academic Council in its 89th meeting, which was place on December 17, 2021.
1.The student must have successfully finished the required course work within the allotted time frame, which is one year from the date of acceptance.
2. The student should have finished the residency term, which is the first year of enrollment.
3. The maximum period of time (six years) shall stay unchanged from the UGC Regulations of 2016.
4. The student must have secured a regular, full-time job.
5. In order to continue in his or her PhD program, the student must pay the semester fees, give the RAC with updates on their work every semester, and register for classes on a part-time basis. If a student misses two consecutive semesters of presenting their work progress to the RAC, their admission will be revoked.
6. For Science Schools (except SCIS) the recommendations will come through the School Board. At the time of application, along with the RAC report, there will be a one-time conversion cost of Rs. 5000 from a conventional PhD to a part-time PhD. In addition to the usual semester cost, external/part-time PhD students are required to pay a part-time PhD fee of Rs. 5,000/- every semester.
These regulations will be in effect starting on December 18, 2021.
Change of Registration:- Full-Time to Part-Time Ph.D. Programme
A student who has been accepted to a full-time PhD program may be allowed to switch to a part-time PhD program
. A student who requests such a conversion must meet the following requirements:
• have finished the course work;
• have passed the comprehensive exam, administered in the State of Seminar in subject no. 10, which was considered to be satisfactory; and
• Obtain the OPGC's and the supervisors' approval of the request.
• provide a "No Objection Certificate from the Head of the Institution/Organization" that they wish to join.
Such conversion, if approved by the SPG will be subject to the following conditions:-
- The student must complete his/her thesis with in 7 years counted from the date of his/her first registration in the programme
- Provision of conversion from full-time to part-time status can be availed of only once by the student during his/her programme
- The status of the student will be reviewed by the supervisor and at least once every two semesters after the conversion, and his/her continuation on part-time status will be subject to his/her continuation on part- time status will be subject to his/her making satisfactory progress towards completing the Ph.D. thesis.
